Using Insurance for Therapy

How Insurance Coverage Works

Many insurance plans provide benefits for outpatient mental health counseling.

Coverage may vary based on:

  • Your specific insurance plan

  • Deductible requirements

  • Copay amounts

  • Coinsurance responsibilities

  • Referral requirements

  • Telehealth coverage

Because every plan is different, we encourage clients to verify benefits before their first appointment.

Please note that insurance coverage may change, be canceled, or contain errors that result in sessions not being covered or payments being retracted. In such cases, clients are responsible for the full cost of the appointment. If you have any questions, please contact our intake team. If insurance has not paid for your services within 60 days from the date of our submission to them, you will be asked to cover fees for the appointment out of pocket. Should insurance later make payment, you will be refunded any monies over you copay, coinsurance or deductible due.

Depending on your current health insurance provider or employee benefit plan, services can be covered in full or in part. Contact your provider to verify how your plan compensates you for psychotherapy services.

We recommend asking these questions to your insurance provider to help determine your benefits:

  • Does my health insurance plan include mental health benefits?

  • Does my health insurance cover online or telehealth appointments?

  • Do I have a deductible? If so, what is it, and have I met it yet?

  • Does my plan limit how many sessions per calendar year I can have? If so, what is the limit?

  • Do I need written approval from my primary care physician for services to be covered?

Payment

We accept cash, checks, health savings/ flexible spending cards and all major credit cards as forms of payment. We require all clients to have a valid credit card on file to cover fees for services, appointment cancellations, no-shows, deductibles, and any costs incurred when insurance denies coverage for appointments. The consent allows us to charge up to $250 to your card on file without prior additional consent.

You have the right to receive a ‘Good Faith Estimate’ explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, healthcare providers must give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including mental health services

Cancellation Policy/Late Arrival

We have a strict Late Cancellation/Arrival policy to ensure that all clients get the best care possible and the full amount of time and attention from their provider they deserve.

If you are unable to attend a session, please cancel at least 48 hours beforehand. Otherwise, you will be charged for the full rate of the session to the card we require on file.

We have a strict arrival policy to ensure clients before and after you get the same care as you do.  If you are more than 10 minutes late to an appointment you will be charged a Late Cancel Fee for the missed appointment.

Understanding Insurance Benefits

Insurance benefits are determined by your insurance company and specific plan.

While we make every effort to verify benefits and provide accurate estimates, coverage, deductibles, copays, coinsurance, and eligibility can change at any time. Clients remain responsible for balances not paid by insurance.
